Samantha has been involved with the Springfield Symphony for nearly her whole life. She attended her first concert in 2001, and grew up attending Springfield Symphony Chorus rehearsals with her mother before joining the chorus herself in 2011. In high school, she volunteered at concerts and played flute and piccolo in the Springfield Youth Orchestra.
After graduating from Mount Holyoke College with a bachelor’s degree in music, she did her master’s degree in musicology at Tufts University, where she was a Concert Manager and worked in the music library. While at Tufts, she also began to work as the Production Assistant of the SSO and volunteered with the social media, providing our audience with a glimpse behind the scenes of concert nights and helping to curate the throwback series during the orchestra’s 80th season. Beginning in 2023, she has written, recorded, and edited the Program Note Videos, allowing our audience to become familiar with the music before attending the concerts.
Outside of her work with the SSO, she is an avid researcher and scholar. She is a PhD candidate in Critical Music Studies at Stony Brook University, where she is currently working on her dissertation. Her research interests include film music, symphonies by underrepresented composers, organology, and the history of the Springfield Symphony. During the summer of 2025, she put her scholarly skills to use to begin organizing the SSO’s archive.
