Jonathan Lam, Conductor, has served as Music Director for the Springfield Symphony Youth Orchestra since 2007.
Jonathan began musical studies with violin and piano at the age of six. He is a graduate of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras, Tufts University, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, and The Pierre Monteux School for Conductors and Orchestra Musicians. Recently, he has served as Music Director the Bay Youth Symphony and Nashoba Youth Orchestras, Associate Conductor for the MetroWest Symphony Orchestra, Guest Conductor for the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Conductor for the Worcester Youth Orchestras, Assistant Conductor for the Southern Illinois Music Festival Orchestra and Chorus, and has served as a cover conductor for the North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra, Beverly, MA.
He has been a regular Adjudicator for the MICCA Solo and Ensemble Festival and Concert Festival. As a violinist, he has played in numerous orchestras in the U.S. and Canada, including the violin and viola sections of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and served as Assistant Principal Viola in the Paducah Symphony (KY). Jonathan has recently led the MMEA Western District Senior Festival Orchestra, the CMEA Northern Region Middle School Orchestra in Burlington,CT, and the VMEA U32 District Orchestra, Montpelier, VT.
Off the podium, Jonathan works as an underwriter and a chauffeur for his three children.
