Welcome to Symphony Sounds, a new series featuring audio from memorable concert performances by the Springfield Symphony Orchestra.
In this first installment, Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 in G Major, Op. 88 is in the spotlight, as performed by the SSO on October 5, 2019, on stage at Symphony Hall. Kevin Rhodes talks about Dvořák’s play between major and minor in the 8th and, through audio clips from the SSO’s performance, illustrates how this juxtaposition of “bitter” and “sweet” works into the development of the Symphony’s overarching musical themes.
