The Healing Art of Music

A Message from Marsha Harbison

“The Springfield Symphony Orchestra brings so much joy, meaning, and excitement not only to its musicians, but also to the Greater Springfield area and Western MA through a wide variety of concert offerings. In a period in which the headlines are dominated by the pandemic and racial strife, the healing art of music means even more to all our lives. We are eager to perform together again in a unifying and inspiring concert season.

I have been performing with the SSO since moving to the area in 1977 and have enjoyed playing with all the excellent musicians, conductors, exceptionally talented soloists from all over the world, and the SSO chorus. Our concerts have always been greatly appreciated by enthusiastic audiences, including one this year when the soloist got a standing ovation after the first movement of the concerto! In addition to playing, I have been fortunate to represent the musicians on several SSO committees, including the program committee and the Board of Directors.

The musicians of the SSO look forward to bringing the music back, both on the Symphony Hall stage and in your community. Musicians continue to play because of their love of music and their passion to perform for their audiences. You make us better at what we do just by continuing to come and enjoy the concerts we produce.

I wish to thank all of our sponsors, donors, and, of course, our loyal patrons for sustaining us, and we will see all of you at an SSO concert very soon.
