Strings educator Capella Sherwood is the newest member on the Springfield Symphony Youth Orchestra team; leading the Springfield Youth Camerata. Originally from Vancouver Island, Capella spent her teen years playing violin and viola in the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. Capella holds an Associate Diploma in String Pedagogy from the Victoria Conservatory of Music, a Bachelor’s Degree in Viola Performance from McGill University, a Concours Diplome Premier Prix from the Conservatoire de Musique de Montreal and a Master’s Degree in Viola Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.
Capella has taught youth string ensembles in Toronto, Ontario and in Cork, Ireland, leading the Cork Junior Repertory Orchestra 2 as part of the Cork Youth Orchestras. She currently teaches violin and summer chamber music at the Northampton Community Music Center. When she’s not teaching for the SSYO, you can also find Capella happily playing viola this season with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra.
