The first performance of the series--a brass quintet ensemble--will take place Nov. 20 at 12:30 p.m.

The SSO’s brass quintet will entertain concert-goers with a selection of classical music, led by South Hadley native Thomas Bergeron, Principal Trumpet; Gerald Serfass, Trumpet; Robert Hoyle, French Horn; Brian Diehl, Trombone and Stephen Perry, Tuba. The afternoon’s event also will include a discussion with SSO Conductor & Musical Director Kevin Rhodes and a brunch reception. The Winter Ensemble series will include two additional performances that will take place Sunday afternoons at 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 22 and Feb. 19, 2017:

  • Jan. 22: SSO’s guest soloist performance by Spencer Myer, Piano

“Our collaboration with Wistariahurst is a perfect match,” said SSO Executive Director Peter T. Salerno. Both organizations missions are similar: to reach out to new people, build engagement in the Pioneer Valley and provide accessible cultural experiences to our community,” he concluded.

“This partnership with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra is an incredible opportunity,” said Kate Preissler, Executive Director at Wistariahurst. To be able to bring world-class musicians, along with Maestro Kevin Rhodes, into Belle Skinner’s music room where members of our community will be able to listen, learn and interact perfectly embodies our mission while upholding the spirit of this historic space.”
