BEETHOVEN Symphony No. 9, Op. 125, D minor (Choral)

We close our 2016-2017 Classical Series in lofty and jubilant style, with the words of William Shakespeare and Walt Whitman, among others, as the source material! Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 (An Ode to Joy) is one of the most important pieces of music ever written and features the vocal talents of the Springfield Symphony Chorus. Two lyrical works by the beloved British composer, Vaughan Williams, round out a celebration that is simply not to be missed!

Maestro’s Oslo Raffle Prize Drawing: On concert night, immediately following intermission, Maestro Rhodes will draw the winning name of this season’s trip for two to Oslo, Norway! Don’t miss your chance to win a week’s getaway for two – including airfare, hotel, tickets to see Maestro Rhodes conduct, and dinner with the Maestro. Tickets will be sold pre-concert and during intermission. Only 500 tickets will be sold (making your odds of winning very favorable); proceeds benefit our music, education and community initiatives. Call the SSO Box Office at (413) 733-2291 to purchase your raffle tickets.

Classical Conversations Pre-Concert Discussions: Enhance your concert experience with an informal half-hour discussion before each Classical Concert at 6:30pm in Symphony Hall. During the 2016-2017 concert season, we look forward to featuring a series of Classical Conversations guest lecturers, for lively discussions & audience questions about that evening’s Classical concert program. On this evening, the discussion will be led by John Montanari (Classical Music Host, NEPR, Retired). Classical Conversations discussions begin at 6:30pm in Symphony Hall, and are free to all ticket holders.
