INSTRUMENT PETTING ZOO COORDINATOR

The SSO seeks an individual with a passion for music and music education to coordinate its Instrument Petting Zoo educational program.   The Coordinator is responsible for handling the scheduling of Zoo visits to schools, museums, fairs, libraries, parties, etc. and will report to the Education Program Manager at the SSO.  The Coordinator takes the 8-10 instruments out on visits, presents a very short overview of what an orchestra is and then, with volunteers from the organization or site being visited, gives each child the opportunity to try their hand at playing each of the instruments.  It is a simple but effective intro to the SSO and orchestras.   Each child takes home a simple coloring book guide to the orchestra.

This is a part-time position, with no set hours.   We prefer an individual who has a strong background in classical music and a knowledge of the instruments used in the orchestra.  Performance skills on one or more of the basic instruments would be valued.  This individual should love being around children (K-3), have a warm personality and the ability to remain calm and professional in all sorts of settings.

The position is paid on an hourly basis; mileage is also paid.
